a timeline of events

• Kirk and Ashlee Gillespie purchased the Cartons and Crates side business operating as Napa Valley Art Supplies in June of 2019.

• Renamed Color Theory Art Supplies to go along with our business name Color Theory LLC in January 2020

  • 90% turnover of product selection and custom canvas and panel shop created

  • Increase supplies offered by 35%

• Moved to Main Street location July 2022.

  • Rent increased 46% prompting a necessary move.

  • New location saw another increase in supplies offered including a huge gift, kids and pen section.

• Closed Color Theory Art Supplies June 30, 2024

  • High rent and neighborhood limitations created an impossible situation going forward and we decided to close the store but continue with our custom canvas and panel business.

• Opened Color Theory Canvas & Paint August 26, 2024

  • Having decided on a location for artists to pick up their custom made items we also included all the things our primary customer base uses. Having the paints, brushes, tools, surfaces and supplies to go with the custom built items just made sense. So a new store has sprung up in a small space, easy to get to and easy to park at.

  • Expansion is already planned. It’s only a 900sf space but it has 25 foot ceilings. We are planning a second floor to be able to offer more supplies for more artists (escecially budding artists).
